KAÇKAR DAĞLARI MİLLİ PARKI

22/06/2024

The national park, which is 16 kilometers away from Rize's Çamlıhemşin District and partly extends to Erzurum and Artvin provinces, consists of the 3 large mountain masses of the Eastern Black Sea Mountains, Üçdoruk (Verçenik), Göller (Hunut) and Kaçkar Mountains. There are 9 villages and 33 plateau settlements in the park. It was declared a national park in 1994. Kaçkar Hill is one of the important peaks of our country with its peak of 3992 meters. Being in the rainiest part of the country not only enriches the forest, alpine meadow and sub-forest flora of the national park, but also makes it unique in terms of streams. Streams that are actually the size of a river, such as Fırtına Creek and Hemşin Creek, surround the national park. In line with the richness of the flora, there are normal populations of bears, wolves, jackals, foxes, roe deer, wild boars, martens, rabbits, ermines, weasels, mammals such as birds of prey and songbirds, and wild roosters in the national park. Sea Trolls live in Fırtına Creek. National Park has many statuses such as natural protected area, archaeological protected area, tourism center and municipality adjacent area. Zilkale, Kale-i Bala and Fırtına Creek bridges located in the Hemşin Creek Valley are culturally important riches. At the same time, plateau settlements, which display the social-cultural and economic spatial image of the region, are important with both their harmony with nature and their architectural values. Kaçkar Mountains are suitable for trekking in summer and hiking activities are carried out on 8 hiking trails in the area. Kaçkar Mountains are open to camping, mountaineering, trekking, picnics and recreation activities in the summer.
